After missing the planned 2020 meeting through the pandemic-effect, a large number of representatives from 23 of our 25 ITBF member countries, on 6 continents, enthusiastically gathered to attend in person. Newmarket, known as the ‘Headquarters’ of horseracing throughout the world, needs little introduction to Thoroughbred breeding enthusiasts. Steeped in horseracing and Thoroughbred breeding history, dating back to the 17th Century, Newmarket is home to the oldest horseracing institution in the world, The Jockey Club, and to two world-class racecourses. It has the largest cultivated heathland anywhere in the world and has more than 50 individual stud farms in and around the area. It also boasts two world-leading equine hospitals, both at the forefront of equine veterinary advances. The uniqueness of Newmarket and all that it has to offer, lent itself perfectly to making the 2022 ITBF General Meeting and Vet Conference, combined with an exceptional programme of events, an unmissable opportunity for our members. Importantly, we also planned the event around other major British and European events, that took place directly before and after the ITBF week, so that ITBF members were able to maximise on their visit to this part of the world.
