ITBF Chairman announced ‘BREEDER OF THE YEAR’ at the British TBA’s Annual Awards

We are immensely proud of our Chairman, Kirsten Rausing, who for the second year running, has been awarded the Silver Rose Bowl, British Breeder of the Year. This follows on the back of receiving the Cartier Award of Merit, at the Cartier racing Awards, in November 2022.

2022 was an outstanding year for Miss Rausing, culminating in her indomitable 4th generation Lanwades-bred mare, ALPINISTA becoming heroine of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and crowned World Champion. Unbeaten in 2021 and 2022, ALPINISTA accumulated 10 wins, 9 Stakes wins, and a phenomenal 6 consecutive Group 1 wins.

ALPINISTA however, was not the only Lanwades-bred to shine brightly at the highest level in 2022. ELDAR ELDAROV (another 4th generation, who shares the same granddam in ‘ALBANOVA’ as ALPINISTA) was victorious in the world’s oldest Classic race, the Gr.1 St Leger (first run in 1776).

Group 1 wins in 2022 were not just confined to Northern Hemisphere shores, with Australia also experiencing the significant Lanwades-bred factor in DURSTON (by Lanwades own stallion SEA THE MOON and out of a Lanwades mare CARIBANA, who is by the late Lanwades stallion HERNANDO), winning the Gr.1 Caulfield Cup, beating subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip. Likewise in Australia, ZAAKI (by the late Lanwades stallion LEROIDESANIMAUX and out of Lanwades-bred KESARA) continued to show his mettle, winning yet another Group 1, in the Champion Stakes – making this his 4th Group 1 win (totalling an astonishing 11 Group wins, a further 11 Group places and earning over Aus$10 million – becoming Australia’s highest earning import of all time).

The ITBF Executive Committee and all our members feel exceptionally fortunate and honoured to have Kirsten Rausing, with her invaluable experience and knowledge ‘as a hands-on breeder’, leading the way as Chairman of our federation!
