As a major player in rural communities, the horse racing industry helps to sustain local employment, which is open to people with all levels of qualifications and cannot be relocated, in areas that are sometimes remote. It accounts for 40,000 direct and indirect jobs, including 14,000 horse breeders (Galop & Trot). In France, around 19,000 hectares of permanent grassland are used for Thoroughbred breeding. Breeding is expanded across the whole French territory.

There are three (3) auction sales houses in France: Arqana, located in Deauville in Normandy and which organises thirteen (13) sales a year, Osarus which hosts three (3) sales and a new entity called AKTEM has also been established with five (5) auctions. Plus, they all organise online auctions. [Text Wrapping Break]In total, around 3,500 horses are sold at public auction in France, amongst which 1 300 yearlings.

132 racecourses in France host 6859 races a year in both jumping and flat.
