NHBSI is the representative of all Indian thoroughbred stud farms and breeders.
India has 62 stud farms as well as a number of private breeders boarding their mares on stud farms.
There were approximately 3500 horses in training in 021Number of racedays per year in India in 2019 (Pre-Covid): 2514

India’s Racing Associations:

All are independent Turf Clubs under the aegis of the body “Turf Authorities of India” (TAI). There is an annual Joint Meeting of TAI where Owners’, Trainers’ & Jockeys’ Associations are involved. NHBSI is invited as an Observer and can make suggestions and speak at the meeting. This is supported by the Turf Club Chairmen meeting regularly for decisions.

There are 17,595 employees directly in racing and 3.3 million person-days for stud farms in 2021. 5800 acres are dedicated to stud farms in the 9 States of the Union.
