These conditions are supported by the availability of natural resources and favourable climatic characteristics, combined with the tradition and experience of the rural sector in working with and developing horses. Since the reopening of the Maroñas Racecourse in 2003, and thanks to an organisational model supported by the State to promote the industry, a strong framework has been established. This has encouraged breeders and owners to invest in areas such as genetic improvement, infrastructure, technology, and both professional and non-professional human resources. As a result, there has been a noticeable improvement in race performance both nationally and internationally. At every stage of the industry, the respect and welfare of its central figure—the Thoroughbred racehorse—is prioritised. In racing, this is reinforced through a strict anti-doping policy and the application of all recommendations from OSAF, along with any additional measures deemed necessary, ensuring the highest standards of equine care.
