Key breeding areas in the country are primarily the East Anglian region, including the counties of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, with significant numbers of horses also born and raised in Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Shropshire. The breeding and racing sector supports over 21,000 jobs and contributes around £375 million to the UK economy. Multiple globally recognised auction sales are held annually in Great Britain, including at Tattersalls, Europe’s leading bloodstock auctioneer, where the overall turnover in 2025 was £429,923,656.
